In the presence of greatness

Sometimes you hear an artist and realise you are truly in the presence of greatness.

Lastnight after years of waiting I was finally able to hear/see Philip Sayce live on stage at one of my favourite venues De Bosuil in Weert where I had performed the week before.

One of my guitarists in Montreal, Quebec, Kim Greenwood, had turned me onto this music many many years ago and then I realised we had some mutual friends out in Europe too.

The eager audience was filled with fans of mine from Belgium to Netherlands to Germany, all of us excited to finally hear Philip back in Europe after such a long time away as many fans told me they had not seen him in 10-12 years on stage in Europe.

It is hard to describe the magnitude of his playing, his sheer force and stage presence and then his kind and gentle demeanour off stage. What a true honour we all had in hearing him lastnight. He is one of those artists who you instantly question the music business for, and ask why he is not a household name. That is one of the mysteries of this business. There is often no sense to it.

Thanks for the incredible show Philip, to the fat rhythm section on tour with you, and the agent/tour manager who put this European tour together. Look forward to the next chance to hear you live on stage, channeling sheer energy and love to your audience.
